Final Call for Awards

RYA NI Chairman John Taggart and Development Officer Mary Farrell promoting the RYA NI Annual AwardsThere are just two days left to nominate clubs and individuals for the Royal Yachting Association of Northern Ireland’s (RYA NI) prestigious annual Awards. RYA NI Chairman John Taggart is calling on the public to submit their nominations by the 29th August to be in with a chance of being shortlisted. The 2014 awards will highlight, promote and reward the good work carried out by clubs and individuals, encouraging participation, development and excellence in sailing and boating.

RYA NI SQUADS SECURE PODIUM FINISHES

Three squads of RYA NI sailors have successfully competed at two major events this week, the Topper Worlds in Pwllheli, Wales and the UK Laser Nationals in Largs, Scotland.

East Down Yacht Club report:
Today was the first day of the event with race 1 starting at 12.00 in wind speeds of 
17 knots. 88 boats were “Tallied Out” (This is a safety system that ensures the event 
organisers know which boats are on the water and who is in each boat)
Towards the finish of the first race the Race Officer decided that due to worsening 
weather conditions the second race of the day would be cancelled.
