Cost: £35 for members and £45 for non members,

Students need to bring along a 9th Edition or later First Aid manual, or these may be bought on the day from the Instructor.

Senior instructor training

Senior Instructors are qualified to organise and control group sailing tuition and to supervise and assist instructors. SIs must be confident, competent managers, capable of organising groups of all ages and directing the work of their instructors.

An RYA recognised dinghy/keelboat/mulithull training centre must have a current SI as its Principal or chief sailing instructor, though a Yachtmaster™ instructor may fulfil this role in a keelboat centre.

Eligibility

Candidates must first be an RYA dinghy instructor and must fulfil the following criteria prior to the SI course:

Attendees MUST have attended ‘Safeguarding Children and Young People in Sport’ prior to attending this workshop and be over 18 years of age.

OVERVIEW
This workshop is aimed primarily at Designated Safeguarding Children’s Officer’s within sports clubs. The training provides them with further understanding to assist in their role of safeguarding children in sport.

OUTCOMES
By the end of this workshop you will be able to:

  • Reference the legislation that pertains to safeguarding in sport and describe the main implications for the junior sports club.
  • Describe the roles and responsibilities of key personnel/agencies in the safeguarding of children in sport, particularly that of the Designated Safeguarding Children’s Officer.
  • Respond appropriately to a range of situations that give grounds for concern.
  • Apply skills in reporting and managing cases of poor practice and abuse within/outside sport.
  • Review the proposed “Getting It Right” action plan for the development and role out for the development and role out of the Standards for Safeguarding within your club.

How to Become a Racing Coach

What experience do you need to be a Level 2 Coach?

RYA Racing Coach Level 2 Definition: ‘A qualified RYA Racing Coach Level 2 is a good club racer with personal knowledge of club and/or regional racing and a broad basis of coaching skills. They will be able to deliver and award Start, Intermediate and Advanced Racing where appropriate, working at affiliated clubs or recognised training centres.’

The course to become an RYA Racing Coach Level 2 is an intense weekend looking at the theory of coaching and applying it in a practical series of on the water exercises. Each candidate will be expected to run complete sessions including a brief, on the water exercises with feedback and a debrief. The aim of the course is to provide candidates with skills and techniques to coach racing to youth and adult sailors.

Eligibility to become a Racing Coach Level 2

• Appropriate racing experience (guide = good club racer)

• Appropriate current racing knowledge (classes/pathways)

• RYA Powerboat Level 2 certificate

• A valid RYA recommended first aid certificate (6 hours duration and covering hypothermia)

• Minimum age 16. Level 2 Coaches aged under 18 should be appropriately supervised by an adult who is either a Senior Instructor or a Racing Coach Level 2 or above.

• Previous instructing experienced is preferred but is not essential if the candidate has suitable alternative experience.
