6th for Matt and Ryan
Day 1 of the Olympic 49er regatta sees Matt McGovern and Ryan Seaton finishing 6th Overall, a very convincing start from the Northern Irish duo with 11 races still sheduled before the medal race.
In the opeing race of the 49er regatta they finished 4th in the building breeze of between 15-20kts. The wind is shifty off the shore creating difficult conditions and exciting racing for all the fleets.
Matt and Ryan have made an awesome start to this 2012 campaign!
Bangor sailor James Espey was also racing today, finishing 42nd overall with results of 38th and 44th on day one of the laser competition, the largest fleet of the competition. Paul Goodison of Team GBR finishes 17th, the Beijing Gold medalist showing the depth of quality of the laser fleet. Laser favourite Tom Slingsby lies in 1st position with results of 2nd and 1st.
In other results Annalise Murphy has the best start ever to her first olympics winning both of the opening races of the radial events.
At time of writing the Finn and Star class were racing thier third race of the regatta.
